Candidate Forum US Congressional District 6

The League of Women Voters of Western Monmouth County invited area residents to attend a forum for the United States 6th Congressional District on Sunday, October 21st.  Senator Frank Pallone (D) and Candidate Richard Pezzullo (R) agreed to participate in the debate which was held at Temple Rodeph Torah in Marlboro. If you live in the 6th district and weren't able to attend you can watch the full video here and listen to the candidates answer questions about the issues and concerns of their future constituents. The forum was provided to help voters to make informed decisions about the choices they have in the upcoming mid-term election, November 6th. We thank everyone involved for helping to make this valuable forum possible.

Registering New Voters at Howell High School #MyVOTEMyVOICENJ

Congratulations to Howell High School (New Jersey) for another successful Rock the Vote event yesterday. AP Government students guided by their teacher Ms. Stacey Gregorikis partnered with volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Western Monmouth and the volunteers from the Howell Democratic and Republican clubs.

Voter registration is a non-partisan effort to encourage people to register and get involved in our Democracy. Our 2017 event registered 212 new voters. Yesterday's 2018 event broke that record with 226 new voters registered. Thank you to Vice Principal Michele England for your support!

The Rock the Vote event was part of the joint effort of League of Women Voters of New Jersey and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association - NJPSA#MyVoiceMyVoteNJ

Students received the banner and wristbands as part of the event. They had some fun taking photos with the wristbands to show how they can amplify their voices when they all vote!

Students were encouraged to download the Monmouth County Votes app while they waited for their turn to register. The app will allow students to follow up on the processing of their registration, find out where to vote and receive reminders to vote.

Learning about New Jersey's own Suffragist, Alice Paul

Members and Friends of the League of Women Voters of Western Monmouth took a trip to Paulsdale, the historic home of Alice Paul, in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. We were truly inspired by the amazing life of Alice Paul our own New Jersey suffragist who spent her life working for women's vote and women's rights. We all owe her a debt of gratitude.

Western Monmouth League of Women Voters Holds Annual Luncheon

The Western Monmouth League of Women Voters celebrated its 50th Annual Luncheon/Meeting on May 30, 2018. Our local LWV chapter has seen a monumental growth in membership during this year and we conducted our meeting by pairing it with a delicious lunch at the Bone Fish Grill in Manalalpan.

This past year we spent time looking at how we could change our leadership model to incorporate the interests and talents of our newest enthusiastic members.  Our meeting this afternoon demonstrated we have a cadre of strong, smart women who will enhance the work of our League.  We voted to fill new board and off-board positions for the coming two years and we're very excited to move into the summer season with so many able volunteers who will encourage informed and active participation in government and influence public policy through education and advocacy. We reaffirmed out commitment to being a non-partisan political organization dedicated to Making Democracy Work.

Let your voice be heard. Don't forget to vote on Tuesday, June 5th in the New Jersey Primary election. Your vote is what makes democracy work!

#MyVoiceMyVoteNJ Voter Drive at Jackson Liberty High School

A few of our newly trained voter registration volunteers partnered with more seasoned volunteers to put into action their recently acquired knowledge. We held a voter registration drive at Jackson Liberty High School on Friday, May 11.

The drive was organized by our Western Monmouth League and  AP Gov. teacher, Kelly Grubb. It was part of the #MyVoiceMyVoteNJ campaign co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New Jersey and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.

"The #MyVoiceMyVoteNJ voter registration drive was a fantastic way to support students’ expression of their voice during these challenging times. The campaign also served to promote a positive course of action and civic engagement for students that will indeed make a difference for the future of America."

What a warm welcome we received from Mr. Grubb and Principal Maureen Butler. Thank you for making this so easy for students to participate.

We had a beautiful set up in the main hallway. Volunteers worked three different shifts as students arrived between classes and were also brought down during classes. We were able to register 120 new voters!  We hope these students will take it to the polls as soon as they're 18 and eligible to cast their first vote.

Thank you to our volunteers: Janis Iwanyk, Helen Dvokin, Marlene Franklin, Ruth Lipman, Susan Meltsner, Helen Cantos, Wendy Sabin, Carol Krimko, and Diane Goldstein.

If you have a chance to visit Jackson Liberty take a look at the solar field which is part of the Energy Solar Program. It's very impressive.
